Inmate work release case files, 1973-1974.

These records relate to work release programs for approximately 60 Bedford inmates during 1973 and 1974. Most of the records pertain to inmates in Bedford's Reformatory Division although several pertain to inmates in the Prison Division. Records contained in the individual inmate folders include: work release agreement (includes name and address of employer, salary and number of hours per week, and travel arrangements); work release report (name of employer with statement of inmate's work performance); request for disbursement of funds (includes dates worked and statement of amount of money needed for transportation, clothing, lunch, etc.); correspondence and memoranda relating to transportation, purchase of clothing, inability to work because of illness, etc.; and several black and white photographs of the inmate.

Bushwick Correctional Facility, located in Brooklyn, New York, was also known as Bushwick Rehabilitation Center and Bushwick Community Based Center. It was administered by the Narcotics Addiction Control Commission under the Office of Mental Hygiene, and served as a work release and general confinement facility from the late 1960s through the middle 1970s.
